  • Ethiopian Mandate ( 1 Article )

    Is 55: 1,5
      has been a foundation promise since 1993
    :
    “Ho, everyone who thirsts, come to the Water,
    and you who have no money, come, buy and eat…
    Behold, you will call nations you do not know
    and nations who know you not will run to you because of the Lord your God...”

    Today, the African nation of Ethiopia is running with arms wide open.

    The city of Addis Ababa, nestled in the mountains of the eastern Horn of Africa,
    is home to a number of kingdom-minded Pentecostal denominations,
    full of delightful people eager for intimacy with the Holy Spirit.
    God released His fire over hundreds during the first regional leadership conferences
     held in the city of Debre Zeit, just south of the capital, in the summer of 2008.
    In addition to pastors and worship leaders,
    children, teens, young adults and women came into special focus,
    longing to be prepared to fulfill the astounding calls of God on their lives.

    The Holy Spirit has forged divine alliances for this ministry with the humble pastors toiling to shepherd the tens while yearning to reach the multitudes in one of the world’s oldest developing countries.  A study in extremes, Ethiopia is resplendent with sculpted mountains and breathtaking waterfalls, yet broken in many ways; saturated with history and lavish cultural mystique, but challenged and struggling.  Impassioned believers have much to teach the Western Church about faith, gratitude, humility, worship, and intercession, but thousands of Ethiopians still do not know Christ.

    With so many opportunities to bring assistance, change, improvement and teaching, these are our goals:

    *     To establish the Fresh Oil School of Ministry in Addis Ababa;

    *     To purchase a license to duplicate materials for many more schools to be established across the nation;

    *     To create corresponding lending libraries to provide current resources for area pastors;

    *     To provide courses in English As a Second Language;

    *     To develop Discipleship programs;

    *     To found the European and North African Continental Missions Outreaches, & open doors for short-term international teams;

    *     To implement Evangelism Programs in remote villages using the Jesus Film;

    *     To network with Relief Organizations to distribute clothing, food, household goods, water purification systems and dig clean water wells;

    *     To locate microfinancing for entrepreneurial development on behalf of skilled adults;

    *     To organize traveling Village Medical Clinics for AIDS education, child immunization, preventive medical care and dentistry;

    *     To gather and train an extensive staff of regional directors, program overseers, school administrators and hundreds of volunteers;

    *     To institute cooperative, continuous programs with local churches for leadership conferences, youth convocations, women’s ministries, children’s outreaches… a visionary list which is endless.

    One Ethiopian pastor prophesied:
    “You cannot touch all the water in the ocean with one small boat –
    many other boats must come alongside and help with this huge vision.

    And the Lord will bring them.”

    Two Americans can live in Ethiopia at relatively low cost, but what of the tremendous door of opportunity for us all to reach out and minister?
    Is the Lord impressing you to become a monthly financial sponsor?
    Can you underwrite equipment, microfinancing or personal living expenses?
    Will you commit to dedicated intercession?
    Are you able to provide a scholarship for a future pastor
    to attend the Fresh Oil School of Ministry?
    Do you hear a call to become a future short-term missions trip member?
    Is the Lord asking you to bring your boat alongside
    to reach the ocean of souls in Ethiopia and beyond?

    ‘Ask of Me, and I will make the nations your inheritance…’ [Psalm 2:8].
    Fresh Oil Ministries International has asked for Ethiopia.
    Will you reach out and help claim her for God?

  • Kotebe Church ( 1 Article )

    In June & July 2008 Iain and Michele Gunn spent four weeks conducting pastor/leadership conferences in Debre Zeit, approximately 45 minutes south of the capitol.  On our final day in Ethiopia, literally on the way to the airport to depart for the States, we were privileged to visit Kotebe Full Gospel Believers’ Church in Addis Ababa.  Our dear brother and friend Alayu Kebede serves on the leadership team there and made

     arrangements for what became a foundational meeting with Pastor Kaleab and Prophet Lemma, two of the associate pastors.  In addition to discussing our vision for establishing schools of ministry throughout Ethiopia, we also prayed together and experienced the Presence of the Holy Spirit in power.  A seed of love and compassion for these men and their calling was born in our hearts that day, and was echoed back in their prayers and support for our future plans. Although few communications passed between us in the ensuing year, these two precious men of God were often in our thoughts and prayers. We looked forward to the opportunity for Iain to meet with them again during his 2009 trip and renew our fellowship.

       Two days before Iain’s departure in July of this year, we received an email from Alayu requesting prayer concerning the church.  They had just received notice from the landlord of the property where the church currently meets, asking them to vacate the property their body has used for years and find another location. As we lifted them in prayer, we had such a strong sense of peace that the Lord’s hand was in the timing of this apparent upset.  Iain’s trip was coinciding perfectly with a transition for this body of believers, and we soon discovered the reason.

       As he met with the church pastors the morning after his arrival, Iain shared what had been stirring in our spirits concerning their eviction. “Ask the people to give one birr [Ethiopian dollar] each as a seed toward the cost of the new property.  In this way, they will share in the victory and be able to feel the church truly is theirs as well.    The leadership hadn’t yet figured out a way to communicate their dilemma to the congregation, and there wasn’t time to alert anyone to bring a special offering before the next service.

       But a few days later, during the Sunday morning meeting at Kotebe Full Gospel, the senior pastor explained the eviction to the body, then asked for the special offering to be received as Iain had suggested.  A large woven grass mat was spread on the altar, and the people began to walk forward, tossing their coins and bills in an ever-growing pile.  Without any advance notice to save or prepare, the men and women of Kotebe Full Gospel gave over 9,000 birr toward their new home!

       If that were not miraculous enough, the pastors have also located a parcel of land in a more active area of the city, complete with buildings and space for parking.  So a church which was established in 1996 with only 16 believers has begun the journey to owning land and buildings to accommodate the 1,000+ current attenders.

    Please pray what the Lord wold have you do to help the people of Kotebe get into this new property.

    Your support could make all the differance.
